While the physical work environment is cold (our warehouse is kept at freezer temperatures for the preservation of the meat), our Shipping Department provides a warm opportunity for continuous development, cross-training, and promotion from within the company.
Position Overview:
A Receiving Associate oversees and keeps records of all shipping and receiving. More specifically, they are responsible for organizing, sorting, and transferring goods from one location to another. They monitor company packages from the start to finish, ensuring proper packing techniques and shipping practices. Receiving also update inventory records and compile weekly or monthly reports for the management.
Specific Duties:
- Ship and Receive. Pull and prepare products for shipment. Pick orders, compare lot numbers, build pallets, unload and load trailers and verify proper stacking and freight on pallets. Tape or stretch-wrap pallet as required to ensure product stability.
- Check Inventory. Count product, compare counts to drivers’ manifest, and check shipments for damage, infestation, and production code dates. Verify receipt of the product at the appropriate temperature.
- Move product using a forklift, pallet jack, or other power equipment. Stack and store the product in appropriate areas. Load, unload, move, stack, and stage product and materials. Pallet heights can reach up to 7 feet.
- Identify and recover any received or shipping damage.
- Inventory: Assist in physical inventories with the use of scanners. Ensure proper stock rotation by following lot number identification.
- Maintain the facilities, equipment, and materials in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion. Inspect and verify equipment is in operating order each day before shift begins.
- Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ensure all aisles and docks are kept clear
- Maintain a safe work environment following company procedures and safety regulations
- Perform other tasks as directed
To qualify for this job you must have:
- GED or High school diploma
- Ability to operate material handling equipment including:
- Walk-behind
- Forklift
- Pallet jack
- Ability to read and write in English
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
