The United Nations Mission in South Sudan is a United Nations peacekeeping mission for the recently independent South Sudan, which became independent on 9 July 2011. UNMISS was established on 8 July 2011 by United Nations Security Council Resolution 1996.
Duties and Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following responsibilities:
Asset Management:
- – Creates notifications to the users and write-off of the equipment.
- – Maintains inventory and equipment master data.
- – Assists in the receiving, inspecting, and verification of all incoming ICT assets and supplies.
- – Issuance of ICT equipment and entering the records in the asset control system.
- – Monitors the physical inventory of stocked items on a regular basis to ensure the accuracy of records and the location of the property.
- – Maintains and controls proper records for all expendable and non-expendable ICT assets using the Organization’s enterprise asset management systems, such as UMOJA.
- – Generates reports using Power BI
- – Undertakes spare parts tracking and performs other related duties as required.
Server/Data Centre Administration:
- Provides the full range of technical assistance in the area of server operations and administration.
- Installs, configures, tests and deploys server systems hardware and software, to include Local Area Network infrastructure, Operating Systems (Unix, Linux, Mac OS), Electronic mail, Lotus Notes, Citrix, Database systems, Web Development software, Firewall systems, Network Services Server systems (DNS, DHCP, NFS, CIFS/SMB, mail relay, and various security software.
- Provides the administration, operation, technical support, and monitoring of server systems; undertakes complex trouble shooting of server systems. • Works with other Units within the Service to maintain optimal 24/7 operations for the server systems operations.
- Provides input to identify the need for new systems or re-engineering of the existing systems.

Qualification:
- High school diploma or recognized equivalent is required.
Work Experience
- A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in office automation and Asset management-related functions including software, Windows 10 or 11 Operating System, local area networks, hardware/software configuration, and troubleshooting is required. The minimum number of years of relevant experience is reduced to three years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Working knowledge in a complex technical environment and experience in Information systems support is required.. Experience in delivering Office 365 support services is desirable. Work experience within the United Nations system or similar international organization is desirable. Experience in the ERP system/United Nations property management and Field Support Suite system i.e. UMOJA and FSS are desirable.
Languages
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
