Under the direction of supervisory staff, you will perform varied and moderately complex electric and/or acetylene welding, cutting and grinding work in the shop, yard, or other TTC properties. This includes track bonding, cadwelding and work related to these procedures and related work. You may occasionally perform and direct a crew during thermite welding operations on trackwork as required.
You will also set up and operate various types of cutting and welding equipment; use a variety of oxy-acetylene and arc welding processes (e.g. MIG, TIG, stick, and flux core.; You will weld or braze various metals (e.g. aluminum, high and low-carbon steel, stainless steel, manganese, steel iron, brass, copper, bronze etc.), utilizing various metal fillers and air arc cutting equipment. You will fabricate a wide variety of jigs, devices for track construction/maintenance. You will also perform various rail welding work in surface/subway systems, which involves:
- Seam welding track-plates, combination plates, expansion joints, as well as rebuilding worn rail heads, guard rail on curves, special trackwork castings, welding jog plates, etc.;
- Performing general emergency work such as freeing frozen track switches and mechanisms, making temporary repairs to defective rail joints, etc.;
- Removing and replacing pavement around rail as required;
- Operating a truck which may include a towed vehicle in order to transport tools, materials, and personnel to work sites;
- Setting out track zone lights, flags and/or impassable track set-ups in strict accordance with published safety regulations;
- Performing related duties as assigned;
