Duties and Responsibilities
Background of the assignment: The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) is a United Nations entity established in 1968 to support countries worldwide in advancing justice, crime prevention, security and the rule of law in support of peace, human rights and sustainable development. UNICRI is mandated to assist intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. UNICRI' s goals are: - to advance understanding of crime-related problems; - to foster just and efficient criminal justice systems; - to support the respect of international instruments and other standards; - to facilitate international law enforcement cooperation and judicial assistance. Purpose of the assignment: The individual contractor will support UNICRI actions to raise awareness on the issues addressed by the Institute work programme by providing assistance in the production of new public information material and by contributing to updating and developing the Institute’s websites. In particular, the incumbent will support the production of new publications, photography, videos, newsletters and awareness-raising campaigns; and will contribute to the update and expansion of UNICRI’s websites. Specific tasks to be performed by the individual contractor: Under the supervision of the Public Information Officer, the individual contractor will carry out the following tasks: - Draft the graphic content of information materials related to the Institute initiatives. - Generate graphic images/illustrations, photos, videos and interactive presentations. - Convert conceptual design layouts into functional HTML code. - Produce web pages incorporating product photos, text and graphics. - Design and prepare publications, leaflets, brochures, newsletters and presentations. - Store files from all materials produced in an accessible and retrievable format. - Perform other job-related duties as required.
Qualifications/special skills
A High school diploma is required. A university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) or a specialized training in the field of Graphic design or related fields is desirable. At least 5 years of experience in graphic design (including web graphics) is required. Professional experience with Adobe Creative Cloud and other design software is required. Experience with user interface design and usability, as well as main design principles (colour, layout, and typography), is required. Experience with Content Management System concepts and Drupal is required. Experience in photo and video editing and production is required. Previous relevant work experience within the United Nations System or similar large international organizations is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in oral and written English is required; knowledge of Italian is desirable.
This position is subject to local recruitment. Applicants for this position must be authorised to work in the duty station where the position is located (i.e., Turin, Italy) in accordance with the local laws. Eligible applicants selected from outside the duty station shall be responsible for any expenses concerning their relocation to the duty station or obtaining/extension of local residence and working permits/authorisations.
