RANCH MANAGER FOR PUREBRED CATTLE OPERATION Location: Fairfield, Texas
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage purebred cattle herd including: selection, calving, breeding, feeding, grazing, sales and marketing, record keeping, and maintenance of all fences, equipment and building structures.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Employee will be provided with a vehicle to use during work hours to perform essential duties of the job. Mobile phone reimbursement will be provided.
Self-starter, highly motivated, honest, strong work ethic, detail oriented, strong record keeper and able to perform physically challenging tasks.
Must have experience in cattle care and management including nutrition, breeding, and cattle sales. Applicant should have an understanding of feeds and feeding of cattle in preparation for breeding, artificial insemination, sales and/or development of bulls. Applicant may also assist with feeding and handling of show cattle.
Experience needed in artificial insemination, set up for embryo transfer, calving, tagging, weighing, feeding, hauling, moving, sorting, doctoring and branding.
Must have skills and willingness to market and build the ranch’s customer base. Responsible for building annual budget alongside ranch accountant.
Must be able to safely operate and perform routine maintenance on ranch equipment.
Understanding of forage and hay production.
Understanding and willingness to complete ongoing ranch maintenance including fencing, minor plumbing/electrical projects, landscaping and maintenance of grounds, etc.
Written and verbal communication skills required.
Must be proficient in computer-based cattle management and record keeping programs. Other needed skills include: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, email.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to comprehend simple instructions and carry out tasks as discussed. Ability to keep detailed cattle records (in cattle management program), including but not limited to, cow and herd sire: private herd numbers and pasture locations, dates bulls dropped off and picked up; calf records: sire and dam, birth date, birth weight, hip height, weaning weight; vaccine and health records for all. Ability to market cattle and build customer base.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee may be required to sit, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may be required to lift and/or move 50 or more pounds, daily. Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. Extended work hours and weekends as necessary.

Competitive compensation based on work experience. Housing will be provided by employer. Paid vacation.
