This role in summary
The Hardware Engineering position involves designing electronic components for Whirlpool Appliances, from initial requirements through production launch. The engineer will be part of Whirlpool's Electronics, Electrical Systems Organization, a global team of nearly 600 professionals developing advanced home appliance electronics. The position reports to the Hardware Manager based in Latin America, and the team includes peers from the US, Italy, India, China, and Brazil. Responsibilities include performing engineering tasks as part of cross-functional teams for new product development programs and managing concepts, requirements, design, analysis, and testing. The role primarily focuses on designing, analyzing, and testing electronic controls for various operating environments, markets, and feature sets.
Your responsibilities will include
- Key Activities:
- Develop and validate embedded hardware applications.
- Design hardware solutions to drive system optimization, improve module/component design, and enhance product reliability.
- Interact with system architects/integrators to review and consolidate application requirements.
- Select and integrate hardware modules to build embedded hardware applications.
- Electronic/Electrical Circuit Model/Simulation, PSPICE Knowledge (Personal Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis)
- PCB (Printed Circuit Board) Layout design, applied simulation, and component selection for hardware execution.
- Prototype assembly, bring up, debugging, and functional verification
- Working with and managing suppliers/manufacturing partners
- Project Execution Activities:
- Actively Participate in Technical Design Reviews to ensure the Project is delivered per architecture
- Actively Contribute to Change management in place to manage the changes to the project
- At the Design Completion Milestone, complete the project delivery at a system level.
- Capable of proper use of Whirlpool processes and tools.
Minimum requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronic Engineering
- 3+ months of of experience in any of the following: designing electronics hardware modules, select components, electronics simulation, PCB (Printed Circuit Board) layout design, and prototype assembly/testing (experience may include academics, internships or co-ops)
Preferred skills and experiences
- Master’s Degree in Engineering( Electrical or Electronic )
- 1+ years of experience in any of the following: designing electronics hardware modules, select components, electronics simulation, PCB layout design, and prototype assembly/testing
- Industry-standard tool Alegro Cadence/Altium Designer
- Able to work with both Global and regional Groups inside EES (Electronic & Electrical System) and Cross platforms, positively influencing the organization in all directions(both Vertical and Horizontal)
- Effective communication and negotiating skills.
- Familiarity with 6 Sigma Methodology and EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) & EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) theory,
- Experience designing high-volume products and dealing with contract manufacturers
- Mixed-signal and embedded board-level design experience incl. Up to 32-bit microcontrollers
- Hands-on experience building prototype electronics: assembly, board bring-up debugging, functional verification, modification of mechanical housings
