Job description

Purpose of the Post: Data Entry Assistant will provide significant support to the WHO Regional Reference Laboratory (RRL) for Polio Eradication Initiative to ensure the data entry and database management of testing records conducted at RRL for poliovirus detection.

Overview of the Programme: The continued transmission of poliovirus in Pakistan has become a national emergency. Pakistan now risks becoming the last remaining reservoir of endemic poliovirus transmission in the World and the only remaining challenge in achieving the polio eradication globally. Recently the PEI (Polio Eradication Initiative) Program has made tremendous progress in reaching and vaccinating persistently missed children, detecting, and responding rapidly to the presence of the poliovirus whenever and wherever it is identified. The recent surge in wild poliovirus detection has raised a serious concern with the demand for intensification of surveillance activities to rule out the possible reasons for recent incremented transmission of wild poliovirus in the country. In doing so, there is a direct need to enhance the testing and detection of poliovirus in stool and environmental samples collected from across the country. These activities require appropriate processes related to laboratory investigations, data management maintaining the quality standards to be implemented in a timely and effective manner. The WHO Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication Initiative is one of the highest workload Laboratory recognized in the world for its excellent performance and plays a critical role towards ensuring the Program’s success and decision making.

Organizational Context: Under the direct supervision of Polio Laboratory Director and Coordinator and the overall supervision of the WHO Representative in Pakistan, the incumbent will undertake the following duties:

§ Gathering, collating, and preparing documents, materials, and information for data entry;

§ Transfer data from paper formats into database systems and creating digital documents from paper or dictation ;

§ Type-in data provided directly from the field operations, hospitals or polio surveillance units;

§ Verify data by comparing it to the source documents for any error and make corrections accordingly;

§ Sort, organize and store paperwork after entering data;

§ Update existing data, produce reports and retrieve data as requested;

§ Perform regular backups to ensure data preservation;

§ Conducting quality checks to obtain information for incomplete documents and materials;

§ Reviewing all documents and information for accuracy and informing the supervisor of any errors or inconsistencies;

§ Updating and maintaining databases, archives, and filing systems;

§ Generating and exporting data reports, spreadsheets, and documents as needed;

§ Performing clerical duties such as filing, monitoring office supplies, scanning, and printing as needed;

§ Undertake other relevant duties as directed by the polio laboratory director, coordinator and/or WR.

Essential Education and Professional Requirements:

§ Higher Secondary School Certificate from a recognized institute.

§ A minimum of 2 years of professional work experience as data entry operator and database management.

§ Relevant diploma or certificate in data entry related programs

§ Strong expertise in MS office suite specially MS Word, Power Point, Excel and Outlook.
